After a glorious run starting and building Ezekiel Clothing, founder Vince De La Pena was looking for a new vibe. Challenge

Finding loyal vendors, clients and employees was actually not the problem with the upstart fashion house. Getting the product out at fashion shows and in the faces of buyers at small shops on the west coast helped to build a buzz that landed Mada “Breakout Brand of the Year” nominations two years in a row by the Surf Industry Manufacturers’ Association. Executive director of SIMA, Sean Smith remarks that “now is the time for hip young brands to penetrate the market. Kids want a lot more out of fashion nowadays. They are very particular, looking to the more fashionable exclusive brands and styles. Mada is on the forefront of that movement and leads the pack with its slimmer cuts and more forward, trend-setting designs.”

With a successful round of private equity financing behind him, vendors chewing at the bit, a team of rabid surfers ready and willing to take the brand to market, Vince De La Pena was missing one thing: human resources (HR) infrastructure.
